Home > San Diego Heel Shoe Repair

Have you worn down the heels on your favorite pair of shoes or boots? The good news is that when you repair them, you likely have many more years of use of those shoes. When we repair your shoe heel, it’ll give your shoes new life—and many more days of enjoying those favorite shoes, boots, or sandals.

Depending on how worn down your heels are, we have a few options of how to repair your shoe heel. The first thing we need to do is to see your shoes, so that we can give you an accurate assessment and let you know what we can do for you.

Still, in every case, we can even-out the heels so your shoe heels are the same height again. It may also require that we replace your shoe’s heel with a new lift—which, of course, will be trimmed and finished to match the other shoe’s heel.

Heel Types and Manufacture

Many different heel types are used in heel shoe repair. The most common type of heel used in heel shoe repair is injection-molded plastic. While the most common heel shoe repair material is injection-molded plastic, wood heels and built heels are sometimes still used for heel shoe repair.

Injection-Molded Heels

There are two main the injection-molded styles of heel shoe repair—the cavity molded chunky heels and stilleto heels. The first, chunky heels are most commonly made of heel shoe repair materials such as polystyrene, ABS, polypropylene, and expanded plastic.
While there are many choices for chunky heel shoe repair materials, these days nearly all chunky heels are molded from high-impact, toughened polystyrene. The best grades must be used during heel shoe repair in order to avoid brittleness and cracking when it is attached during the heel repairing process.
As another choice, ABS can be used for heel shoe repair in chunky heels, but mostly for heels that are intended for electroplating. The heel shoe repair material ABS is harder than most grades of polystyrene, so heel-attaching pins require greater pressure for insertion. Consequently, the heel shoe repair material ABS’s pin-holding strength is greater.
The heel shoe repair material Polypropylene has been used only on a limited scale for chunky heels because it is more difficult to mold than the heel shoe repair material polystyrene and is slightly more expensive. But it has excellent impact and fatigue resistance and does not become brittle.
Although expanded plastic would appear to be a good heel shoe repair material choice for covered chunky heels - particularly where lightness of weight is required - because it has inadequate pin-holding strength, it is not recommended as a heel shoe repair material. Plastic chunky heel shoe repair materials are produced by conventional injection molding techniques. All heel shoe repair materials are molded in a multi-cavity mould. The heel shoe repair material is injected close to the centre of the scat surface. After release from the mould, the heel shoe repair materials are immersed in water for cooling.
